What will Trump do if the Ukraine peace talks fail?
Right now, peace talks are still technically alive. But only just. The United States must prepare itself for the day diplomacy no longer has a pulse.

Right now, peace talks are still technically alive. But only just. The United States must prepare itself for the day diplomacy no longer has a pulse.

SO much has already been written and said about the disastrous White House meeting between Trump, Vance and Zelensky that you might think there’s nothing more to add. But two important points may have been missed by most of the supposed ‘experts’ and various talking heads.

The decision comes after Trump criticized the Ukrainian president on Monday after Zelensky claimed that “an agreement to end the war is still very, very far away.”

Why is Starmer so keen? Because he is in the throes of negotiating a new defence ‘pact’ with the EU, which would place British forces under the control of the unelected, unaccountable, EU Commission – the first step in his attempts to undo Brexit through the back door.

President Joe Biden may just have made his riskiest wager yet in the years-long Russia-Ukraine war — while incoming President Donald Trump continues to call for a swift end to the conflict.

Biden may believe that he is doing Ukraine a big favour with his ATACMS policy shift, but by limiting the missile systems to Kursk and the Russian border, he is repeating the same mistakes he’s made in the last 1,000 days of the full-scale war.

To understand what Putin may want, we have to put ourselves in his shoes. If I were Putin (a weird thought) I would draw up a list of factors in favour and against peace talks.

Pundits claim that if Donald Trump is re-elected, he will cut off aid to Ukraine, give away its territory, and deal directly with Vladimir Putin to impose an ignominious “peace” on the country.
There’s no evidence that such capitulation will be part of President Trump’s policy and much evidence to the contrary.

In the West, the mere mention of a negotiated settlement is considered a dangerous appeasement of Russia’s flagrant aggression. In Russia, anything short of victory would be seen as synonymous with the collapse of the Putin regime.

According to a former senior member of Zelensky’s administration, Ukraine’s leader had ‘hoped the conference would mark a new benchmark of international support… [but] it just showed how badly we have lost the support in the Global South’.
