Cavendish is racing at his 15th and final Tour de France, where he broke the all-time stage win record set by Eddy Merckx by securing his 35th stage victory at the French Grand Tour on stage 5 in Saint Vulbas, the latest step in his own era in the history of sprinting.
Vingegaard swept into Paris transported by his near-infallible Jumbo-Visma team to win the Tour de France at his second attempt, from defending champion Tadej Pogacar and the peloton’s Mister Consistency, Geraint Thomas, who took his third podium finish in four years.
The 109th edition of the Tour de France gets under way in Copenhagen on Friday and finishes in Paris on Sunday, 24 July.
The riders will tackle two individual time trials and six mountain stages on trips to the Alps and Pyrenees during the 3,353km race.
