A warning shot writ large, but Putin won’t attack the West

The Joint Chiefs’ principles, laid down at the start of hostilities, remain in place: that the war would be confined to the territory of Ukraine, that Ukraine would be given all material support required to defend itself, that the cohesion of Nato would be maintained and that there would be no direct US or Nato intervention.

RISHI Sunak flew to Ukraine a few days ago to sign an agreement for ‘security co-operation’ and ‘a hundred-year partnership’. This is in a context where the former head of the British Army is warning that our armed forces are so shrunken that we invite a 1930s-style disaster.
