The United States on May 13 sanctioned a network of entities that sold Iranian oil to China and used the proceeds to fund terrorist activities.

President Biden inherited Donald Trump’s “maximum pressure” sanctions that had crimped Iran’s oil sales, but he has refused to enforce them. The Foundation for Defense of Democracies estimates that Iran earned some $40 billion in revenue from unenforced sanctions from January 2021 to March of this year.

A congressional letter to President Joe Biden, who has been accused of being lax on enforcing sanctions against Iran, warns that Iraq’s oil sector is being converted into a means by which Iran-aligned militia groups and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard generate terrorist financing.

Will he support House sanctions on Chinese firms that buy Iran’s oil?
