Created by combining more than 150,000 pieces of fossil evidence with state-of-the-art climate models, it shows the intimate link between carbon dioxide and global temperatures and reveals that the world was in a much warmer state for most of the history of complex animal life.
While the public at large suspected they were being gaslit, it was encouraging to see the upstart media, such as Talk TV, rubbishing the claims as well; Mike Graham, Julia Hartley-Brewer and Kevin O’Sullivan, for instance, all made it clear they thought such claims were an insult to our intelligence.
While few of us in the UK had yet mothballed our winter coats or turned off the central heating for the rest of the year, the Met Office assured us that we had just experienced the hottest May on record in the UK since 2008. This did not reflect the reality to which those of us with eyes to see can attest.
THE Met Office clearly believe they can get away with any claim, no matter how outrageous. They have just announced that this year saw the hottest May ever in the UK; and not by hundredths, but by a whole degree. I don’t think any of us need expertise in meteorology to know that this is simply absurd, even with our own short memories.
CLIMATE scientists at the time were unanimous – by the 1970s it was crystal clear that the planet had been cooling for three decades.
WE are told that the weather is worse than it’s ever been, and it’s because we’re doing nothing about the earth’s dangerously rising temperatures.
If that’s right, then the weather 30 years ago, for instance, would have been less dramatic, calmer, with a minimum of record-breaking. Was it like that? Here is a look at 12 months of weather, November 1992 to October 1993.
