Despite the recent price drop, the cost of gas at the pump, is still 19 cents a gallon higher than last month and remains 34% higher than the $2.38 a gal average when President Donald Trump left office.
Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana got it right: Over the past two years, President Joe Biden stalled domestic energy production, begged Saudi Arabia to send more oil to America and drained the Strategic Petroleum Reserve — all in his effort to lower gas prices in advance of the 2022 election.
“No US government official has ever thrown up their hands and cackled at Americans being gouged at the pump,” he continued. “Of course, no American President has purposefully gone out of his way to empower OPEC either.”
When Biden took office on Jan. 20, 2021, the average price for a regular gallon of gas, stood at $2.39. but as of Nov. 8, the price has increased to about $3.80 per gallon, according to the American Automobile Association.
In response to a Tuesday question from Peter Doocy of Fox News, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre helped to clarify the Biden administration’s position on gasoline prices: When they go down, it is the result of the president’s hard work. When they go up, it’s due to a complex process that includes a number of factors beyond his control. Yes, Covid is still on the list of official excuses.
The president said prices at the pump are down “$1.30 a gallon,” and claimed the average price is “less than $2.99” in 41 states and Washington, D.C. In fact, zero states have an average price under $2.99 per gallon, 41 states and the District of Columbia have an average price under $3.99, not $2.99.
