In two swing states—Pennsylvania and Wisconsin—election workers are prohibited by state law from processing absentee and mail-in ballots until Election Day. More than 2 million voters in Pennsylvania have requested mail-in ballots this year, and more than 80 percent have already been returned.
Republicans in both Arizona and on the national level are claiming that Maricopa County has not sufficiently prepared for Election Day, which may result in long lines and persuading eligible voters to avoid voting.
With three weeks to go until Election Day, advocates of mass mail voting are again worrying about the reliability of mass mail voting.
Since election results could be “delayed because of a rules change, you’ve just created a dynamic where either side can claim the election has been stolen,” Jason Snead said.
