Federal prosecutors should answer key questions on the investigation of President Joe Biden’s son, including whether the Department of Justice (DOJ) has adequately supported the probe, two senators said on May 10.
“It’s increasingly obvious that Hunter Biden’s business revolved around providing access to his father and the highest levers of power,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), told the New York Post. “It reeks of pay-to-play.”
He went on to suggest that the “clear solution is a Special Counsel investigation to fairly investigate the disturbing allegations of Biden family corruption.”
President Biden and the White House have repeatedly denied that he and Hunter Biden ever discussed the first son’s controversial overseas business dealings — yet there are at least a dozen times when Joe Biden had to know what his son was doing.
A witness who stood before a grand jury investigating Hunter Biden’s connections with a Chinese energy conglomerate was reportedly asked to identify the “big guy” mentioned in an email that detailed propositions for a company established to take part in the joint venture.
A federal tax investigation into Hunter Biden is gaining momentum as prosecutors gather information from several of his associates about the sources of his foreign income, including from Ukraine, and examine President Biden’s son’s relationship with a company that handled some of his finances, according to people familiar with the matter.
On Friday, The Daily Mail reported that emails recovered from Hunter Biden’s laptop show he helped an infectious disease research company pursue projects in Ukraine. Those emails confirm portions of charges Russia made the previous day that an investment group run by the now-president’s son had funded a company conducting research at biological laboratories in Ukraine.
The New York Times last week confirmed the authenticity of Hunter Biden’s missing laptop, a story which was originally dismissed as Russian disinformation by many liberal media outlets leading up to the 2020 presidential election.
Michael Isikoff, once the top investigative reporter for Newsweek, tweeted something unintentionally humorous about a New York Times story.
“In the category of — didn’t see this coming,” he wrote, “The @nytimes confirms the authenticity of Hunter Biden emails derived from his laptop that had been previously dismissed as Russian disinformation.”
