Formula 1 2022: ‘Extreme anxiousness and high excitement’ before Bahrain GP

The Formula 1 cars that start the new season in Bahrain this weekend represent the biggest year-on-year change for 40 years – and possibly ever.

Aerodynamicists in the F1 teams – such as myself – have been working on their designs on and off since 2019, and this weekend represents a time of extreme anxiousness and high excitement as we find out for the first time how well we have interpreted the new rules.

After last season’s dramatic finish, Formula 1 teams have gone back to the drawing board over the winter and are now unveiling their new designs for the 2022 season, due to start in Bahrain on 18 March.

There are substantial rule changes for car design this year, which could shake up the competitive order.

Abu Dhabi Grand Prix ‘tarnishing image’ of F1, says sport’s governing body

Formula 1’s governing body says the controversial Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is “tarnishing the image” of the sport.

The FIA will conduct a “detailed analysis and clarification exercise” into the running of Sunday’s race, with all the teams and drivers, “to draw any lessons from the situation”.
